Corporate giant Reliance Industries' Executive Director Nikhil Meswani has been appointed as Chairman of India Fashion Forum 2011, a global fashion retail business summit to be held later this month.
To be held in Mumbai on February 17-18, the Forum is aiming to help global fashion brands launch their products and find partners in India.
Commenting on his appointment, Meswani said in a statement, "The textile industry has grown significantly from Farm (cotton) to Fabrics in the last few decades. Now the industry is on a journey to convert Fabrics into Fashion trends of tomorrow.
RIL is present in a host of businesses ranging from polyster, to petrochemicals to retail sector.
"I believe that India Fashion Forum will help integrate the industry across the value chain and give it due recognition in international arena. As its Chairman, I look forward to interact with captains of the business of fashion from India and overseas and explore new paths of expansion and growth for Indian market and industries," Meswani added.
Those expected to participate in the Forum include Future Group, Arvind Mills, Gitanjali group, Hidesign, Bata, Giordano Fashions, Mahindra retail, Madura garments, Tommy Hilfiger, Aditya Birla retail, reliance retail, Spencer retail, Westside, Globus, Lifestyle, G&B, Koutons, ITC, SKNL, Reebok, Adidas, Puma, Fila, Nike, Lotto, Biba, Estee Lauder, L'Oreal, Chanel, Pepe and others.
Various fashion retail industry studies have said that international retailers see India as the last retailing frontier left as the China's retail sector is becoming saturated.

A number of international players are seeking options to enter the Indian retail market through strategic licensing agreement, franchisee agreement and cash and carry wholesale trading.
The organised retail in India is expected to increase from current levels of 7% of the total market to 14-18% of the total retail market and reach $450 billion by 2015.
Besides, apparel, along with food and grocery, is expected to lead organised retailing in India.
