Ultra-luxury British carmaker Rolls-Royce today rolled out its new model 'Wraith', priced at Rs 4.60 crore, in Maharashtra, and said it will expand its dealerships from three to five by year-end.

The four-seater coupe is powered by a twin-turbo V12 engine coupled with a eight-speed automatic ZF transmission. The engine is powerful enough to generate 624 brake horse power.

"India remains one of the most important markets for us in Asia. Wraith is drawing interest from the new customers who have not considered a Rolls-Royce before. We are more than optimistic for India," Rolls Royce, General Manager for Emerging Markets-Asia, Herfried Hasenoehrl told reporters at the launch here.

Stating that the iconic British auto firm has seen some challenges, Hasenoehrl said Wraith will be a key to Rolls- Royce success in the Indian market.

Asked about the impact of the rupee decline and weak consumer sentiments on sales, he said the prevalent economic conditions did not have any impact on its sales performance as it caters to a "niche" market. "We are cautiously optimistic about this year."

He said the company has sold 250 cars in India since it re-entered here in 2005 after a five-decade break, but did not give year-wise break up or growth figures.

The British auto firm currently has outlets in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad and wants to add two more.

The company is setting up dealerships in Ahmedabad and Chandigarh this year as part of its plans to reach out to more prospective buyers, he said.

To promote the new model, the company will take the car to Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh after Delhi and Mumbai.
