Rolta buys Canadian firm Orion

The Mumbai-based Rolta, a leading IT services provider, has signed a purchase agreement to acquire Orion Technology, a Canadian software and integration company. Orion specialises in enterprise web-geographical information system solutions.

Though the deal size is not known, Rolta plans to generate $100 million in five years by integrating the acquired technologies.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Rolta, Orion will continue its operations under the same name from Canada. Orion Chairman Zul Jiwani said, "We are excited about becoming a part of the Rolta group."

K K Singh, chairman and CEO of the Rolta group, said: "With this acquisition, we have significantly expanded our capabilities to provide latest products and services. We will now be able to provide unique solutions that offer high returns on customer investments in GIS.

"It also gives us an exceptional platform to develop new solutions for a clientele beyond the segments traditionally served by Rolta and Orion."

Orion employs innovative technologies which allow users to integrate complex geospatial and non-spatial data from disparate sources.
