The new Thunderbird Twinspark fitted with a 350 cc UCE was launched today in Chennai at an ex-showroom (Chennai) price of Rs 103,000, costing a shade above Tata Motors' people car Nano.
Eicher Motors' MD and CEO Siddhartha Lal said that the twin park plug technology was part of the entire engine console and does not need any separate patent. "This is not the first time somebody is doing it. Its been in existence for several year now," he said. Lal's comments comes at a time when commuter segment bike makers Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company are fighting a court case over the ownership of patent for the twin park plug technology.
Royal Enfield said that unlike the previous generation engines, the new UCE will have the engine, clutch and gearbox tucked into a single casing, thus making the entire assembly more compact and less prone to regular maintenance.
