Rs 1,000-crore Tata Steel order for L&T

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has bagged two engineer-procure-construct (EPC) orders worth over Rs 1,000 crore from Tata Steel. The contracts are for Tata Steel's 2.4 million tonne expansion project at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.
 
L&T's international consortium partners"" Paul Worth Italia and Outokumpu Technologies, Germany"" will be associated in executing the EPC contracts. The two foreign partners will receive about Rs 550 crore from these projects.
 
L&T and its partners will construct a 3,800 cubic meter blast furnace for producing 2.5 million tonnes of steel per year. L&T's construction division will execute the contract within 32 months in association with Paul Worth Italia. The value of the contract is Rs 1,190 crore. L&T's share in this project is Rs 713.90 crore.
 
L&T has also bagged, in partnership with Outokumpu Technologies, a contract worth Rs 360 crore for the construction of a 2.3 million tonnes per annum capacity sinter plant to be built in 24 months. L&T's share in this project is Rs 288 crore.
 
At the end of July, L&T's order book position was around Rs 17,800 crore. In the first quarter of the financial year 2005-06, its engineering and construction segment booked new orders amounting to Rs 3,154 crore.
 
Tata Steel currently produces five million tonnes of steel per annum.
 
It has recently invested in NatSteel Asia, which has a capacity of about two million tonnes per annum of finished steel.
