A Srinivasan, chairman, Thanalakshmi Srinivasan Sugars, said the factory, which is coming up at Udumbiyam village, about 20 km from Perambalur, would also have a 23-Mw co-generation power plant and 60 kilolitre a day distillation plant to manufacture ethanol.
The crushing capacity of the plant would be around 800,000 tonne of sugarcane during the crushing season (which will run to 8 months in a year), to be supplied by 3,000 to 4,000 sugarcane cultivators located in the region.
The new plant is expected to be commissioned by October 2009 and the entire project is expected to create job opportunities for 500 persons directly and another 2,000 by way of indirect employment.
The group has a presence in the education sector with three engineering colleges, two polytechnique institutes , two colleges in arts and science and a nursing school besides running schools in Perambalur.
