RSP posts best ever April-Feb output

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a subsidiary of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), registered best ever production performance in the first 11 months of the current fiscal.

The steel plant produced 2.3 million tonne of hot metal, 2.1 million tonne crude steel  and 2.05 million tonne finished steel between April, 2013, and February, 2014, registering highest ever figures since inception. Besides, by producing 3.4 million tonne sinter using iron ore fines, the plant has set a fresh benchmark, the steelmaker said in a release.

During the 11 month period, the steel mill produced 454,614 tonne plates, a growth of 11.8 per cent over the corresponding period last year.  The plant also produced 120,110 tonnes of galvanized sheets in the same period, representing a growth of 10.2 per cent over the same period previous year.

In February month alone, RSP produced 210,050 hot metal, 41,687 tonnes plates, 35,865 tonnes slabs and 1.1 million tonne sinter from the newly-launched sinter plant.

In terms of technological parameters, growth was also seen during April 2013-February 2014 in coke rate, blast furnace productivity, coal to hot metal ratio and specific energy consumption, RSP said.
