Output crosses rated capacity
Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has scaled new highs in production in the April-February period of the current financial year
During this period, the steel plant’s hot metal output reached 2.10 million tonnes, crude steel production touched 1.97 million tonnes and saleable steel output stood at 1.84 million tonnes, registering capacity utilization of 115 per cent, 113 per cent and 120 per cent respectively.
It may be noted that the steel plant has achieved growth of about two per cent in each of these areas compared to the corresponding period of last year. The figures for hot metal and crude steel are the best ever for any April to February period since the inception of the steel plant.
RSP has focused on high volume of production and improvement in techno-economic factors to control cost of production for sustaining its profitability. The steel plant has surpassed its annual rated capacity in hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel within the first eleven months of the fiscal. Simultaneously, techno-economic factors like coke rate per tonne of hot metal, coal to hot metal ratio, average blast furnace productivity, specific energy per tonne of crude steel and make-up water per tonne of crude steel registered all-time best performance for any April to February period since the plant's inception.
During the month of February, Coke Ovens, Sinter Plant-2, Hot Rolled Plates and ERW Pipes had the distinction of surpassing the monthly production levels envisaged in the Annual Performance Plan. S N Singh, Managing Director, RSP visited the shop floor to congratulate the employees of these areas for their achievement.
