The Indian rupee gained 14 paise to Rs 45.10 against the US dollar in opening trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, recovering from a seven-week low on the back of gains made by other Asian currencies.

The rupee appreciated by 14 paise to 45.10 against the American currency in opening trade at the forex market. Dealers said dollar weakness vis-a-vis other Asian currencies mainly kept the rupee sentiment firm, but a subdued trend in the stock markets capped the gains.

The rupee had lost 44 paise to close at a seven-week low of Rs 45.24/25 against the US currency in the previous session on the back of sustained dollar demand from importers amid a strong dollar overseas.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex fell by 63.92 points, or 0.34 per cent, to 20,245.77 in opening trade today.
