S K Gupta, managing director of Videsh Sanchar Nigam (VSNL), will continue to be associated with the Tata's telecommunications companies even as his tenure (managing director of VSNL) ends tomorrow. The details about his new position will be disclosed once Ratan N Tata, chairman, Tata group returns from the US on Thursday.

"I will continue to be with the Tata group. However, I will know the exact position only after the chairman returns from the US," Gupta said while confiding that he would like to work within the telecommunication companies of the group.

Gupta was earlier chairman and managing director of the state-owned VSNL. In February 2002, following the acquisition of VSNL by the Tatas, Gupta signed a five-year contract, which included a two-year tenure as the managing director of VSNL and the remaining three years with the Tata group. The two-year tenure expires on September 30.

Recently at VSNL's annual general meeting in Mumbai, Ratan Tata had told shareholders that Gupta will continue to remain in the company.
