The Sagar Centre for Diabetes, a Bangalore-based speciality centre for diabetes care, has entered into an academic alliance with the New Castle Diabetes Centre of the UK.

As part of the alliance, specialists from UK would have access and opportunity to observe, study the treatment and cure of diabetes in India.

The letter of intent was signed between the two centres to provide clinical support in diabetes care and audit while continuing to provide training, education to promote and upgrade quality diabetes treatment, said Dr Mohan Badgandi, clincial and research director, Sagar Centre for Diabetes.

As part of the alliance, Prof Philip Home and Prof Sally Marshall from the Medical School, University of New Castle upon Tyne are in Bangalore to explore academic interests.

"Currently academic contents of the centre are excellent and we find the work done here in India as good as that in UK or in other centres," said Prof Philip Home.

Implementing the company's audit systems and offering education and training to the staff in India will doubly ensure that the patients get better quality of treatment in diabetes care in the country, he added.
