Steel Authority of India (SAIL) today reported record production of 3.318 million tonne (MT) of saleable steel, and highest-ever sales of 3.014 million tonne during the quarter ended December, 2006.The company improved its performance over the corresponding period last year by registering growth rates of 6% and 8% , respectively, in production and sales.In the first nine months of 2006-07, SAIL plants operated at an average capacity utilisation of 112% producing 9.328 million tonne of saleable steel, an increase of 6%.Tata Steel also completed the first nine months of the financial year with an all-round increase in hot metal, crude steel production and sales volumes.Hot metal production was at 4.11 million and crude steel production at 3.7 million tonne, which were both higher than the corresponding period last year.Saleable steel production stood at 3.66 million tonne - an increase of 11%. Total sales stood at 3.532 million tonne, an increase of 11.70%.
