Samsung dives into smaller towns for higher growth

Samsung Electronics, which aims to retain its leadership position in flat panel TV portfolio, is invigorating its sub-dealer network, especially in smaller towns.

The 40,000 odd sub-dealerships would be enhanced for panel walls to display the latest flat panel wares of the company. Besides, it will strengthen its Smart Zones and rural vans retail points.

“The flat panel TV segment is growing very fast and there is increasing demand from smaller towns,” vice president (audiovisual business) Raj Kumar Rishi said at a conference here.

He said Uttar Pradesh had a large base of class C towns and North India accounted for 30 per cent of the total sales.

Samsung is eyeing to garner 60 per cent share in smart TV in India and 35 per cent of the flat panel TV segment.

The domestic flat panel TV segment, comprising LCD and LED TVs, is pegged at 12.5 million units by 2015, up from around 4 million at present.

Last year, LCD and LED segments comprised 15 and 85 per cent of the consolidated flat panel market respectively.

Meanwhile, Samsung on Sunday launched its new 2012 line-up of LED TVs comprising ‘India customised’ EH and ES Series; and its flagship, interactive Series 7 and 8 Smart TVs. This was a national launch.

The EH and ES series incorporate features as triple protector for the TV against electrical surges and lightning as well as humidity.

Samsung’s flat panel portfolio comprises 39 models across LED, LCD and plasma technologies, in screen sizes between 19 to 64 inches and priced between Rs 12,800 to Rs 273,000. Samsung Smart TV (including LED and plasma models) in screen sizes between 32 to 64 inches are priced between Rs 37,700 to Rs 273,000.
