Samsung rolls out new split A-C models

Samsung Electronics on Thursday launched two new series of split air-conditioners focusing on health and energy conservation. The new series would help the company achieve its target of 37 per cent growth in the domestic A-C business this year.

The company has also proposed to invest $10 million this year in expanding split A-C manufacturing facilities as it expects the volumes to touch 80 per cent of the sales from the present 62 per cent as against window A-Cs.

Launching the new series — Purista and Invincia — here today, R Zutshi, deputy managing director of Samsung India, said the company was targeting to sell 800,000 units this year as compared with 650,000 units last calender year. This would come on the back of country’s overall sales, which is expected to reach 3.6 million units from around 3 million units last year. According to him, the company posted 58 per cent growth in A-C sales last year.

While the flat panel TVs are leading Samsung’s consumer electronics business in the country, the company expects similar growth in other wings, which is expected to see an increase of 40 per cent in revenues over $3.5 billion revenues posted last year, Zutshi said.

The company chose Andhra Pradesh to launch the new split A-C series as the state contributes 33 per cent to the overall sales in South India.
