Samsung targets $2 bn turnover from India ops

Consumer durables maker Samsung India today said it is targeting to achieve 25 per cent growth in its turnover at $2 billion this year from India.

The company had a turnover of $1.7 billion in the last calendar year, Samsung India Deputy Managing Director R Zutshi told reporters here.

During the July-September quarter, when the 'Onam' festival season is on, the company is aiming a business of Rs 175 crore from Kerala, a growth of 58 per cent over the same period last year, Zutshi said.

Samsung is expecting to see a growth rate of 49 per cent this year in Kerala. It is targeting a sale of 70,000 television sets during Onam' and 12,000 LCD and LED sets in Kerala.

The company, which launched the LED television in the Indian market in 40 inches and 46 inches screen sizes this month, expects the range to constitute 10 per cent of the total Flat Panel sales this year, Zutshi said.

The LCD television range comprises 23 models and is available in screen sizes of 22 inches to 46 inches in the price range between Rs 17,500 and Rs 1,70,000.

The company hopes to garner the top spot in the frost free refrigerator and Fully automatic washing machine segment this year, he said.
