US-based electronic manufacturing services (EMS) company Sanmina-SCI on Sunday inaugurated its new manufacturing facility at Oragadam, near here set up with an investment of Rs 250 crore.
Speaking to reporters, Jura Sola, chairman and chief executive officer, Sanmina-SCI, said the Oragadam facility was company’s 18th facility globally. “When we signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government, we earmarked an investment of Rs 225 crore, but we have already crossed Rs 250 crore,” he said.
The facility, spread over 100 acres, was inaugurated by state deputy chief minister M K Stalin. Sanmina-SCI currently employs 1,500 people, which would be increased to 10,000 in the next five years, said Hari Pillai, president and chief operating officer.
The company is looking at eight verticals including communication, computing storage, industrial, defence and aerospace, medical, automotive, enterprise commuting and renewable energy. “To cater to defence and aerospace, we are scouting for partners,” said Sola.
