Sanyo, which is at an advanced stage of equity infusion into its long-time Indian partner BPL, will most probably acquire a couple of units to improve the productivity of the plants.

"As part of the restructuring process and equity infusion, Sanyo might also look at taking over some of our manufacturing capacities, " a senior executive of BPL told Business Standard.

However, BPL refused to comment, saying the company was in the final stages of restructuring and would comment only after the process was finalised.

The BPL group has around 28 factories in the country. "Sanyo can further improve these units by deploying specialised mechanisms and processes," the executive said.

He said the move would allow BPL to focus on branding, marketing and channel development on its extensive dealer network in the country.
