Union Coal Ministry has granted permission to Sasan Power Limited (SPL), wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Power, to produce coal upto 17.20 mtpa from its Moher & Moher Amlohri extension coal mines during FY2015-16.
In June 2015, the Coal Ministry had directed SPL, which operates the 3,960 Mw Sasan ultra mega power project in Madhya Pradesh, to limit annual coal production to 16 mtpa.
Reliance Power spokesman said the Coal Ministry through its letter dated March 15, 2016 allowed the SPL to hike coal production to 17.20 mtpa during 2015-16.
"This will enable SPL to sustain its power plant operations, which are currently at about 100% plant load factor (PLF). This will facilitate Sasan UMPP to generate additionally 2,200 million units of electricity, which will benefit 42 crore population amongst 7 procurer states comprising MP, UP, Rajasthan, Harayana, Punjab, Delhi and Uttarkhand," the spokesman added.
According to the company, Moher & Moher Amlohri Extension coal mines has achieved highest coal production of 16 mtpa and is set to create a new benchmark of coal production amongst the private sector players.
