Sources said Nokia decided to transfer the unit and the people to Nokia, as a part of its global outsourcing strategy which aims at business continuation by transferring part of its works to partner companies.

Following the transfer, the R&D unit will continue to work for Nokia. However Sasken may look at using the unit to work for companies other than Nokia, in future, Swaminathan Krishnan, chief marketing officer, Sasken said.

Currently, Sasken has a small presence in Germany through its acquisition of Finland based Botnia in 2006. A team of about 35 people are located in the city of Ulm in Germany, according to the company.
