To look at Tier II cities
Chennai-based Sathyam Cinemas is planning to add 5,000 seats over the next 12 months with an investment of Rs 40-50 crore.
The theatre chain currently has 2,350 seats, said its chief operating officer Tan Nagarona on the sidelines of the Media and Entertainment Business Conclave here.
As part of the expansion, the company would look at Tier II cities. It is currently developing a property at Tirupur, near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and at Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. The Tirupur property will be ready in 18 months and have a total seating capacity of 3,000.
In Chennai, the company is creating 1,300 seats at Express Avenue with eight screens and is planning two Imax theatres at its existing property at Royapettah.
Nagarona said they would add 15 screens in the next 12 months. The company is also planning a theatre in Hyderabad.
