Mathur served as the chairman of the LIC for 26 months from August 2002. Post his retirement from LIC, the Government of India appointed Mathur as the administrator of the Specified Undertaking of Unit Trust of India (SUUTI) in December 2004.
Mathur is also the non-executive chairman of National Stock Exchange of India and is currently on the boards of leading corporates and financial services companies such as IL&FS, ITC, Grasim, HDIL, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation.
SV Mony spearheaded the Life Insurance Council for the past three and half years and took several significant initiating including setting up Mortality and Morbidity Investigation Centre under the Institute of Actuaries of India, reduction of compulsory hours for agents training to 50 hours, upgrading and making the declined lives database operational, in-house statistical data collation and publishing it on Council website and operationalising terminated agents database.
