JSW Energy, a part of JSW Group, today commissioned the second unit of 135 megawatt of its 1,080 megawatt lignite power project at Barmer in Rajasthan. The unit has achieved commercial operation date effective on October 4, 2010. The first unit had also resumed operations earlier in September after the scheduled annual maintenance.
"The initial difficulties experienced in sustained operation of units have since been largely addressed and the units are now operating at almost their rated capacity,” Lalit Gupta, CEO, JSW Energy.
The 1,080 mw power plant is being constructed in eight units of 135 mw each. Four more units of 135 megawatts each are expected to be commissioned by the end of the current financial year, and the remaining two units commissioned in the first quarter of the next year.
"Development of the lignite mines at Kapurdi is progressing well and the first production of lignite is expected in the fourth quarter of the ongoing financial year. Meanwhile, the government has granted tapering coal fuel linkages for these units from domestic coal mines to the extent of 50 per cent of the fuel requirement," the company said in a statement.
