The workers who came down to the factory stating that they do not agree with the severance package agreed between the company management and the union in the presence of labour department officials and which according to the union, was agreed by the majority of the workers in a general body meeting held at Sriperumbudur on Friday. They were stopped by the factory entrance by the police, and the workers started protest shouting slogans.
On Friday, a section of the workers raised their protest against the severance package, stating that the company should also give assurance on providing job preference to the workers if the factory starts operating either by Nokia or any other company management.
The workers supporting the decision of union to accept the severance package said that the company, in a meeting held in the presence of the labour department officials after the general body meeting, agreed to give job preference if the factory starts operations again.
