The company, which is also a leader in the undergarments segment in Andhra Pradesh, plans to open Vilan showrooms in 10 more towns in 2005-06, and in all major towns in the state in the next two years. |
The company currently runs outer knit garments showrooms in Secunderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Bhimavaram and Kakinada. |
"We plan to open an exclusive showroom in Vijayawada for sports knitwear, track shirts, pants and shorts, shortly. We are also planning to export Vilan outer and undergarments to the United States and Europe," Chandra Sekhar, executive director of Seshasayee Knittings Private Limited, told Business Standard. |
Vilan undergarments are currently available in about 5,000 retail counters across the state. The company's woven garment sales contribute to only 5 per cent of its turnover. |
Seshasayee Knittings, which sells its range of products in Kerala through a strong distribution network, operates its own depot in Mumbai too. It imports sewing grid, needles, oil, tools and other raw material from Thirpur in Tamil Nadu, Ludhiana in Punjab, Mumbai and Bangalore. |
"We have been able to take on the tough competition from big ticket manufacturing companies like VIP, Jockey, Roopa and a score of others as those firms do not manufacture outer knit garments and sell only undergarments," Chandra Sekhar said. |
