Shakthi Hill Resorts Pvt Ltd (SHRPL), the Bangalore-based hospitality group, plans to build a 40-cottage resort at Mullayanagiri in Chikmagalur district. The company has applied to Karnataka Udyog Mitra, a state single window agency for new investment projects, seeking 20 acres of land. It also plans to build a resort on 10 acres at Hogenakal Falls on the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu border. |
The company, which recently launched Winter Greens, a 10-cottage resort near Chikmagalur, plans to invest nearly Rs 6-7 crore for the new resort. The project will be ready within one year once the land has been allotted. Its other resort at Hogenakal will be built at an initial investment of Rs 1.5 crore. |
When contacted, SHRPL managing director Ramesh Arun told Business Standard, "We have identified 3-4 locations in and around Mullayanagiri and have approached the government for land. We want to build a resort-cum-entertainment centre for nature-loving travellers." |
The Chikmagalur region is gaining popularity among the adventure sports enthusiasts and nature lovers as it is home to Karnataka's tallest hill, the Bababudangiri, Datta Peetha, Kemmannugundi and Bhadra Reserve forest. The Taj Group already runs a five-star property in this area. |
Arun said that the company is also looking at venture capital firms for funds. The firm recently invested Rs 1.5 crore for setting up Winter Greens which is spread over 17 acres of evergreen plantations about 10 km from Chikmagalur town. It has put up 10 Texan-styled (wooden) eco-friendly cottages surrounded by coffee, arecanut and vanilla plantations. It has also erected a suspension bridge which creates the feeling of an island among visitors. |
SHRPL is promoting the resort as an ideal location for corporate and outbound training for IT firms. It has provided a conference facility suitable for management development, leadership and communication workshops. The company also provides transfer facilities from Bangalore. |
Firms like Godrej, HP, Nokia and Tesco have held their corporate learning programmes at this resort and many other IT companies have made bookings, Ramesh said. |
