Shalimar Paints plans Rs. 55 crore facility in Chennai

As parts of its expansion plans, Shalimar Paints Ltd (SPL), a leading paint manufacturing company in the country, is planning to set up a new paint manufacturing facility at Gumudipoondi, near Chennai, at an investment of Rs. 55 crore.

Moreover, the company has just set up new state-of-the-art R&D Centre at its Gonde plant, near Nashik. This R&D Centre, which is spread over 10,000 sq ft area, has a fully equipped paint and coating research facility and also laboratories for analytical development and testing. The company has invested over Rs. 4 crore to construct this RD Centre.

Shalimar Paints has three paint manufacturing facilities- at Howrah in West Bengal, at Nashik in Maharashtra and in Sikandarabad, near Delhi. It has more than 50 branches across the country. The company manufactures a wide range of both architectural and industrial coatings.

“As part of our expansion plans, we are setting up a new manufacturing facility at Gumudipoondi, 40 kms from Chennai. This new facility, which will have an annual capacity of 24,000 kilo litters, is expected to be operational by December 2010. An investment in this new facility will be around Rs. 55 crore,” said Girish Jhunjhuhnwala, Chairman, Shalimar Paints Ltd, at a press conference.

Meanwhile, the new RD Centre in Nashik was inaugurated by Jhunjhunwala, chairman, SPL. This new R&D Centre will enable the company to carry out research on new and innovative technologies for the coating industry as well as introduce more environment friendly coating.
