Shalimar Paints plans to set up manufacturing facility in Chennai

Shalimar Paints Ltd (SPL)is planning to set up a new paint manufacturing facility at Gumudipoondi, near Chennai, at an investment of Rs 55 crore.

“As part of our expansion plans, we are setting up a new manufacturing facility at Gumudipoondi, 40 km from Chennai. The facility, which will have an annual capacity of 24,000 kilolitre, is expected to be operational by December 2010,” Girish Jhunjhuhnwala, chairman, Shalimar Paints Ltd, told mediapersons.

The company recently set up a research and development centre at its Gonde plant, near Nashik. The R&D centre, spread over 10,000 sft, has a fully equipped paint and coating research facility and also laboratories for analytical development and testing. The company has invested over Rs 4 crore in the R&D centre.

Shalimar has three paint manufacturing facilities — at Howrah in West Bengal, Nashik in Maharashtra and at Sikandarabad, near Delhi. It has over 50 branches across the country.
