Shashi Ruia meets Jayalalithaa in Chennai

Govt says it was a courtesy call

Shashi Ruia, Chairman of Essar Group today met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Government has said it was just a courtesy call.
 
Essar, the multinational corporation with annual revenues of $39 billion and investments in Steel, Energy, Infrastructure and Services, began its operations with the construction of an outer breakwater in Chennai port.
 
In 2009, the company has inaugurated Rs 75 crore Steel Service Center facility at Oragadam, the automobile hub of Tamil Nadu and close to one of its largest customers - Hyundai motor India.

The Group also has its Essar Hypermarts, the steel retail chain, across the State.
 
In May 2013, Aegis Ltd, a global outsourcing and technology services company and part Essar Group, announced that it will set up a delivery center in Sivaganga, the Finance Minister's constuancy and said the new centre will generate around 500 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs.
