Ujjain-based small-scale unit Shreeji Polymers India Pvt Ltd, a company of the Shree Packers group, has entered into primary packaging material manufacturing. |
The company has become one of the few companies that produce primary packaging material for pharma companies in India. |
This will reduce the packaging cost by 50 per cent for the big pharma companies that formulate drugs for US export. Earlier these companies had to import primary packaging material from the US. |
The company has also received approval from the United States Food and Drug and Administration (USFDA) for the purpose. |
So far, according to sources, on a Delhi based firm in India manufactures primary packaging material since the norms for good manufacturing practices are to be strictly followed by manufacturers and suppliers, if the material is used for exports. |
"We have invested Rs 1.5 crore in the new unit to supply primary packaging material for pharma companies. The biggies like Ranbaxy, Dr Reddy's, Glaxo, Cipla, IPCA, Lupin etc., export formulations for US market. Now we will have a good client base with this unit, which started last fortnight only," said Mr Anand Bangur promoter of the firm. |
According to US norms if the packaging material is used for drug products intended for oral use, the packaging has to be tested according to the legislation of food contact materials, which states that the packaging material may not endanger public health. |
"The firm will produce 50 tonnes of primary packaging material per month against the consumption of 300 tonnes per month in India," said Mr Bangur adding, "Our clients will not be able to save packaging cost but will also be able to reduce the transportation cost due to our locations since most of the pharma companies have their units in Madhya Pradesh." |
With a nominal five lakh investment start of a small-scale unit 'Vyankatesh Corrugators' in 1983, in Ujjain, the Shree Packers group of small scale units is in corrugated box manufacturing. |
Besides, the group also manufactures High-density Polyethylene products, and polyethylene jars with a capacity of 200 tonnes per months. The group also has a small-scale recycled paper manufacturing unit in Dewas. |
