German engineering major Siemens today said it has bagged a 10-million euro order from Steel Authority of India (SAIL) to supply an RH vacuum degassing plant to the Rourkela Steel plant.

The Erlangen, Germany-based Siemens VAI Metals Technologies, a division of Siemens AG, will help the steel major to open a new plant by the middle of 2012, which will help it produce high-quality steel grades up to cold-rolled non-oriented types.

Under the agreement, Siemens will design, configure, construct, as well as supervise installation of the RH plant and the associated auxiliary installations.

This order is important as it re-starts the relationship between Siemens VAI and Rourkela Steel in bringing about further technological enhancement in special grade steel production.

The new RH plant is part of SAIL's expansion drive at the Rourkela facility in Orissa, which is increasing its raw steel production to 4.2 million tonne.
