Engineering and technology major Siemens Ltd posted net profit of Rs 181.1 crore for the second quarter ended March 31, 19.7 per cent less than the Rs 225.5 crore for the corresponding previous year’s quarter.
Net sales were Rs 2,212.4 crore, 6.6 per cent less than Rs 2,368.2 crore for the same period last year.
The profit figures are strictly not comparable to the corresponding period of the last financial year, since the six-month period result of 2008-09 includes dividend income of Rs 223 crore from divested subsidiary Siemens Information Systems and Siemens Information Processing Services, said a press release.
The company has won new orders worth Rs 7,406 crore for the six months, registering a rise of 93 per cent over the comparative period in the previous year, said the release. The company got a large export order of Rs 2,500 crore for an electrical grid in Qatar and there was also significant rise in the order intake by short-cycle businesses, such as industry automation and drives technology. Its order backlog grew 39 per cent to Rs 13,445 crore.
