The company is setting up a new traction motors factory at its existing manufacturing base at Kalwa near Mumbai. A new software development services center is being set-up at Bangalore through Siemens' software arm, Siemens Information Systems Ltd (SISL). |
J Schubert, managing director, Siemens said, "The company's production facilities are running to capacity. To meet the needs of the market, both from existing order position and future growth in power, rail transportation and information technology, the company has decided to set up fresh capacities and expand some existing capacities. It is also undertaking a modernisation to upgrade some of its facilities." Siemens' transportation systems division bagged two large orders from the Indian Railways during the current fiscal for providing traction equipment for Mumbai Suburban trains and the other for Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi. Traction motors are major components of these two large orders. |
The company is also planning to start manufacture electrical equipment such as traction and auxiliary converters. |
