Sify Ltd (Sify) is planning to roll out broadband content services to its present subscribers. The company also foresees the option of marketing the content to other broadband operators in the future.

It is also investing in a studio to generate limited news, sports and animation-related content which is scheduled to resume operations in the next one month.

"The services will be available free-of-charge at present and going forward we shall work out a pricing model in the next three-four months. We are rolling out the broadband content services to add value to our current broadband offering to our customers and we do not expect to gain additional subscribers because of this," said a senior Sify spokesperson. The company will initially roll out content related to news, sports, humour, movies, music, games and animation.

It will show trailers of latest Hollywood and Bollywood movies, provide online games from content generated from the gaming channel of its website and convert text-based humour into animation.

It is in talks to tie up with a multitude of players such as NDTV, Headlines Today, Aaj Tak, Star Sports, ESPN and a few other television channels to stream their content.

"The broadband content will mostly be sourced from third parties but some of the content will be provided by our website sify.com," the spokesperson said.

Completes 5 years on Nasdaq: When R Ramraj, chief executive officer and managing director of Sify, rung the opening bell at the NASDAQ stock exchange yesterday in New York, he became the first head of an Indian Internet company to do so.
