Singapore Airlines offers discounts on Australia flights ahead of AI's foray

Giving 50% off on add on-domestic destinations within Australia through its partner airline Virgin Australia in a limited period offer

Singapore Airlines  has stepped up its sales efforts and is offering 50% off on fares on add on destinations  as it faces competition from Air India on the India-Australia route. Air India is launching direct flights between Delhi and Sydney-Melbourne by the month end.

The airline announced today it is offering 50% off on add on-domestic destinations within Australia through its partner airline Virgin Australia in a limited period offer. One way tickets to destinations such as Canberra, Gold Coast, Cairns from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide  range from Rs 2,500-5,000.

"With 98 weekly flights from India to Australia and 120 onward connections from Singapore to Australia., Singapore Airlines and Silk Air are preferred carriers for travellers on the India-Australia route,'' said Singapore Airlines's India general manager G M Toh.

Singapore Airlines and Virgin Airlines entered into a partnership in 2011.

In addition to code sharing  the alliance covers common use of  airlines share lounges, reciprocal frequent flyer programme benefits and co-ordinated schedules to provide seamless connections.
