State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited today said it has marginally superseded the target and achieved coal production of 51.33 million tonnes (MT) in 2010-11.

The coal production target of SCCL for last financial year was 50.5 MT.

"We were able to overtake the coal production target because of advance planning and capacity utilisation," company Chairman and Managing Director S Narsing Rao told PTI.

The company had achieved production of 50.4 MT in 2009-10, while the target for the financial year was fixed at 44.5 MT.

"Our company was able to surpass the target due to increase in productivity, capacity addition and utilisation," Rao said.

The coal fields of the SCCL are located in Karimnagar, Adilabad, Khammam, and Warangal districts of Telangana area.

In February, SCCL had said that it suffered a production loss of 3 lakh tonnes of coal, valued at Rs 56 crore due to the Telangana bandh.

Pro-Telangana groups and parties had called for a bandh to press for introduction of statehood bill in the Parliament.

Some 68,000 company employees could not work due to the bandh, resulting in a wage loss of Rs 15 crore.

Presently, the SCCL supplies coal to six power plants, with a combined power generation capacity of 6,000 MW.

SCCL provides 80 per cent of its coal to power houses and about 12 per cent to cement sector.
