Snapdeal hits a home-run

Online marketplace giant Snapdeal is expected to cross $100 million in sale of electronics products in its big bang 'Electronics Monday' sale. Snapdeal today said that the sale has exceeded its expectation with an overwhelming response from customers across the country, with the sales revenue recording an increase of 17X by Monday evening.

"Attractive deals and really solid discounts have resulted in this phenomenal response we have received today. We are well on track to reach $100 million sales on our Electronics Monday Sale," Rahul Taneja, Vice President, Category Management, Snapdeal said.

According to a Snapdeal official, the online marketplace witnessed a lot of sales of Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus phones.

The company on certain models of the phone offered discounts of around 25 percent. Though it did not give out any numbers a company official said that the pre-registration of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus phones also was strong.

Snapdeal by and large in the last two sales have been able to handle the massive load on the website and its app.

According to Snapdeal, the trends indicate a 10X growth in orders 17X rise in sales with 5x growth in customers who shopped in today's sale. "In the large appliances category, air conditioners and washing machines were the top selling products while in the home appliances category geysers were the highest selling product," the company said.

It added that in the mobile phone category, brands like Xiaomi, Micromax, Yu, Samsung and Apple were the most popular also Power banks and cameras were among the top selling categories.

According to Snapdeal, the maximum surge in order volume happened from Bengaluru, Delhi, followed by Hyderbad and Chennai. The online marketplace major sold five mobile phones every second.

Snapdeal kick-started the online festive season shopping madness with a 'Diwali Preview Monday' sale on September 28. The online marketplace is offering up to 70-percent discounts across mobile phones, laptops, tablets and home electronics.

It said that Diwali preview sales revenue recorded a 10X increase. "The growth in sales volumes is consistent across all categories, with overall 6X increase in volumes as compared to usual days," Taneja had said earlier.

Snapdeal over the last six months has been strengthening its supply chain. Also it has made sure that its technology platform is geared to handle traffic surges without any delays or glitches.

To ensure that its customers get the best deals it is also offering cashback offers from its merchant partners.

"With the Diwali Preview Monday Sale, customers can ring in the Diwali shopping early this year and look forward to unbelievable, great value hourly deals and special price point stores on their favourite products," it had earlier said.

Till the walk up to Diwali the company has planned to have a segment specific sale every Monday which would finally culminate in its big bang sale next month.
