Snapdeal sold 64 mobiles a min and 99 laptops an hour

During the sale, 80% of the orders came for mobiles, tablets, and computers. Tier-II and -III cities contributed 70% to total orders

E-commerce portal Snapdeal, which planned a major sale for large pieces of electrical equipment and smartphones on Monday and Tuesday, said over a million people registered for the sale from across India and 400,000 people purchased electronic goods.

During the sale, 80 per cent of the orders came for mobiles, tablets, and computers. Tier-II and -III cities contributed 70 per cent to total orders.

Even as Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi were the top regions which made purchases, New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai led as per city wide data.

The company had claimed that the sale will be different from daily or monthly sales because Snapdeal has been planning it for the last two-and-a-half months and has stocked up inventory in its warehouses.

During the sale, the company said it saw 64 mobile phones being sold every minute and 99 laptops purchased every hour. For Snapdeal, the overall electronics category grew by 450% in the last financial year while large appliances registered a growth rate of 600%.
