Social skills, digital literacy a must have for new age employees: Randstad

Study reveals 90% of respondents believed their job requirements will become more demanding in the next 5 years

Social skills and digital literacy are becoming a major must haves for new age employees, says Randstad India’s global Workmonitor Survey 2013. 
 
The survey is a quarterly review that tracks jobseekers confidence and provides a comprehensive understanding of job market sentiment and trends relating to the employment market across 32 countries. 
 
The survey indicates that employees’ social skills (91%), digital skills (91%), education (90%) and experience (94%) are more important now than it was five years ago.

It also reveals that 90% of the respondents believe that their job requirements will become more demanding in the next five years and this is much above the world average of 76%. 
 
Further, it was found that job requirements have become very challenging with around 90% of the employees opining that job requirements will become even more demanding in the next 5 years. This is much above the world average of 76%. 
 
Moorthy K Uppaluri, CEO, Randstad India & Sri Lanka said, “As corporate India is becoming more global and diverse, organizations across industry sectors are recruiting talents from various geographies. Companies are therefore looking for employees with effective social skills who can fit into the organization’s culture. And since technology is the adhesive that connects a distributed workforce, digital literacy and netiquette have become vital qualities employers look for while recruiting.”

Key findings from India report:
 In India, 91% of the surveyed employees believe that employers make higher demand on their employees’ competencies than 5 years ago. World average for the same is 86%. Employers consider their employees’ social skills (87%), digital skills (90%), education and refresher courses (88%) and experience (88%) to be more important now than 5 years ago. In India, 90% expect their job requirements to be more demanding in the next five years which is above the world average of 76%  90% of the Indian respondents believe that their job requirements have changed significantly in the last five years and this is higher in comparison to world average which is 72%. 98% of the respondents surveyed felt that Job requirement for Female has changed significantly in comparison to Men (84%) in the last five years. In India, employees believe that social skills (90%) and digital skills (95%) will become more important for their role as compared to the rest of the world 94% of the employees believe that their experience will gain more importance while 90% feel that education, refresher course will become important. Women employees have more fear of not meeting the job requirements (60%) as compared to men (46%) Employees working in Government sector (74%) has more fear of not meeting the job requirement in future as compared to the employees working in temporary agency (67%) and elsewhere (45%)
