Somany enters retail sector

One of the leading tile companies of India, Somany Ceramics Ltd (SCL), is bullish on the increasing demand for tiles in Uttar Pradesh and has pulled up its socks to be a major player in the retail market.

"The flourishing real estate scenario in and around Uttar Pradesh has given us the impetus to venture on a grand scale. We have been delivering our products across the state since long; we are now focused on retail largely," Abhishek Somany, joint managing director, SCL, told Business Standard.

Somany along with Anil Beejawat, president, SCL was in Lucknow to inaugurate its first exclusive showroom in the city. The showroom with an investment of around Rs 25 lakh spreads over an area of 2, 000 square feet.

"With a boom in Indian Real Estate market, this industry is also booming. While the industry is growing at the pace of 15 per cent across India, the growth in the state is around 20 per cent. This itself speaks for its potential," Anil K. Beejawat, president, SCL said.
