Tractor manufacturer Sonalika Group will supply Bharat Stage (BS)-IV compliant Common Rail Direct Fuel Injection (CRDFI) engines to General Motors (GM) India for its multi-purpose vehicle, Tavera.

GM India had to stop selling of Tavera in 13 cities, including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore, from April 1, 2010, as it could not upgrade engines to comply with BS-IV emission norms.

“We have entered into a collaboration with GM India for supply of engines. These engines would be manufactured at our unit in Hoshiarpur and the delivery will be started in three months,” said Deepak Mittal, managing director of International Tractors Ltd, a part of Sonalika Group. Initially, the Punjab-based Rs 5,000-crore group, which also manufactures Rhino brand multi-utility vehicles, will supply 1,500 engines a month.
