It seems Priya and Ram have charmed their way into the hearts of viewers with Bade Acche Lagte Hain on Sony Entertainment Television (SET). Even before the launch of Kaun Banega Crorepati 5, Sony has overtaken Zee to become the third largest brand in the Hindi general entertainment (GEC) space.
According to TAM data, a television viewership rating agency, Sony scored 195 Gross Rating Points (GRP) in the assessment for the week ended August 13, in the Hindi GEC segment, while Zee scored190 GRP. Star Plus maintained the lead at 277, followed by Colors at 236.
GRPs are television rating points (TRP) over a period of time. TRP is a measure of the percentage of viewers watching a particular programme at a given point in time.
TAM data showed Sony’s viewership share in the Hindi GEC space had risen consistently since the last few months, while Zee, Colors and Star had lost ground. In the last four weeks, Sony’s share rose to 16.1 per cent from 14.9 per cent for the week ended July 23. Star Plus fell to 22.8 per cent (from 24.3 per cent), Zee 15.7 per cent (from 17 per cent) and Colors fell to 19.5 per cent (from 20.6 per cent)
Says Sneha Rajani, senior EVP and Business Head at Sony Entertainment Television: “Since the past few months our GRPS have grown steadily, based on our own set of differentiators. We have showcased varied content, suitable for viewing by the entire family.”
For Sony, its top five properties, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain — which also leads the 10.30 pm slot with a TVR of 3.89, Crime Patrol (2.93 TVR), C.I.D. (2.91 TVR), Saas Bina Sasural (2.03 TVR) and Adaalat (2.02 TVR) made the difference.
Most media planners said, with the latest season of Kaun Banega Crorepati that opened with a TVR of 5.24 in the top three metros — Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata — would translate into a higher rating for the channel’s GRPs.
