Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has decided not to play the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), quitting all forms of the cricket. The move came after four-years of his announcing retirement from the international cricket. The 40-year-old cricket star has been playing in the IPL since its inception in 2008. In he last season, he was captaining the Pune Warriors team.
“I will be almost 41 by the time IPL-6 ends. Twenty20 is a very demanding format. It would have been very tough for the body...I can't go on forever, and I have requested the franchise owners not to consider me for IPL6," Ganguly told PTI.
One of the most successful captains for the Indian cricket team, the left-hand batsman scored 7,212 runs in 113 Tests and 11,363 runs in 311 one-day internationals. He made his ODI debut in 1992, while test he started playing in 1996.
He also played 77 T-20 matches, but could score only 1,726 runs with an average of 25.01.
