South-Asian film fest starts Nov 3

The South-Asian short film festival, 'Travelling Film South Asia 2006', will be held at the International Centre, Goa, from November 3-5.
 
The three-day event is being organised by the International Centre, in collaboration with the Moving Images Film Club (MIFC) and the Himal Association, Nepal. A total of 14 outstanding films from the subcontinent, including 'The Final Solution' by Rakesh Sharma, set in Gujarat between early 2002 and July 2003, will be screened.
 
The festival would be a perfect prelude to the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2006, according to Gayatri Konkar of the MIFC.
 
"We are holding this festival to help inculcate movie culture in the locals, especially students and, to expand the scope of the movie club by holding more such festivals at different locations across Goa," she said.
 
Arjun Halarnkar, programme manager of the International Centre, Goa, said the International Centre and the MIFC would be organising such festivals pertaining to the films made by the disabled film-makers as well as comedy films.
 
The films to be screened include Team Nepal (37 minutes), The Great Indian School Show (53 minutes), Teardrops of Karnaphuli (60 minutes), Goods News (17 minutes), Lanka: The Other Side of War and Peace (75 minutes), A Certain Liberation (38 minutes), Girl Song (29 minutes), Dirty Laundry (42 minutes), Continuous Journey (53 minutes), City of Photos (60 minutes), The City Beautiful (78 minutes), The Legend of Fat Mama (23 minutes), Sunset Bollywood (54 minutes) and The Final Solution (49 minutes).
 
While the general public will have to pay Rs 100 for the three days, the MIFC members are required to pay Rs 50. Students can pay Rs 25 for the entire event. The registration will remain open from October 27 to 31.
