Upbeat from the huge response received to Anjan Chatterjee promoted Speciality Restaurants Private Ltd. (SRPL)'s nation-wide Chinese fine dining brand 'Mainland China' that opened an outlet in Ahmedabad around a year back, the group has now gone ahead and opened its theme based Indian cuisine restaurant 'Machaan' in the city.
As the name suggests, the restaurant has a jungle like ambience. "We have received a huge response to the Mainland China restaurant in Ahmedabad, and eventually opened another outlet at Vadodara. We were initially apprehensive about the public reaction to the restaurant, as a majority of people in the city are vegetarian. But now, we would closely gauge the demand for the different formats we have, and go ahead and bring in more SRPL brands to the city," said Nripendra Chauhan, general manager, operations, speciality group. He,however, added that nothing was concrete as of now. Investment on the newly opened restaurant has been made by Golden Aster Cuisine and Events, while the restaurant is managed by SRPL personnel. Bharat Shah, managing director of Golden Aster, however, did not want to divulge the details about investment. Golden Aster Cuisine and Events operates the Mainland China restaurant in Vadodara and the Little Italy restaurant, a The Grand Bhagwati (TGB) brand, on a franchisee mode. SRPL currently has over 75 restaurants under various brands including Sigree, Machaan and Mostly Kebabs, besides the flagship chains Mainland China and Oh! Calcutta across the major cities in the country.
The Machaan format is present in Mumbai, Kolkata, Nashik and Guwahati apart from Ahmedabad.
