Low-cost carrier SpiceJet will electrify the remote village of Baruahchuck in Majuli district of Assam. It will set up a 'solar microgrid' on the site in about 75 days in order to provide electricity to approximately 70 households, two temples, one school and an anganwadi centre, besides sourcing power for street lights in the area.

The 'solar microgrid' is a small-scale power grid that can operate independently or in conjunction with the area's main electrical grid, thereby, contributing to providing electricity to a limited number of households.

“On occasions like these, we remember our fellow countrymen who are not as fortunate as us. This Diwali, we wanted to try and light up the lives of those who have never had electricity. So, we are helping provide electricity to the village of Baruahchuck in Assam. This is SpiceJet's small contribution to improving the lives of the people of this village,” airline CMD Ajay Singh said.
