Termed as star ratings, all electrical durables will be rated up to five stars depending on its energy efficiency.
The most energy efficient product will carry a five star rating and the least efficient would carry a single star.
With this, consumers will be able to take in to account the running electricity cost before selecting any particular model.
With the Standards of Labelling Programme comes into full force, the power ministry estimates that the potential energy savings of refrigerators and air conditioners could be in the range of 400 mw annually.
With 1 mw of power generation entailing Rs 4 crore worth investment, air-conditioner and refrigerators alone can result in saving Rs 1,600 crore per annum.
