Nexus Venture funds Function Space
Function Space, a social network for learning advanced science, has raised an undisclosed amount in a seed round of funding from Nexus Venture Partners. The Pune-based company will use the funding to expand content, develop tools and grow its team of contributors and users. Founded in 2013, the platform's users include university and high school students and researchers in commercial labs from countries all over the world. Following the investment, Nexus Managing Director Sandeep Singhal joins the Function Space board.
BigBasket raises $3 million funding
Bangalore-based online grocery retailer BigBasket has raised $3 million from a Singapore-based private investor. Hari Menon, co-founder and chief executive, told VCCircle.com this was part of its next investment round, where it is reportedly looking to raise $40-50 million. The company is about to launch in the National Capital Region, Chennai and Pune and has plans to enter Ahmedabad and Chandigarh later. Currently, its services are available in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. The company raised $10 million from Ascent Capital in 2012.
BigBasket offers products across categories such as fruit & vegetables, toiletries, branded food & non-food products, dairy products and confectionery. Its fleet of vans delivers products in six hours of an order being placed.
Kalaari backs Swipe Telecom
Pune-based tablet and phablet maker Swipe Telecom has raised $4.9 million (Rs 30 crore) in venture capital funding from Kalaari Capital. The funds will be used for expansion in India. With this round of funding, Swipe aims to corner 12 per cent of the rapidly growing tablet PC sector in the country. It claims to have touched a revenue of Rs 100 crore in FY14 and is now targeting Rs 300 crore next year.
