State Bank's advance tax for March quarter down 12%

Private banks pay higher tax, ICICI leads pack with 25% rise in payment year-on-year

State Bank of India had paid Rs 1,450 crore this quarter against Rs 1,650 crore last March. This is contrary to advance tax payments made by leading private banks. HDFC Bank paid Rs 700 crore against Rs 600 crore, while ICICI Bank has paid nearly 25% higher advance tax for the March quarter.

The bank paid Rs 550 crore as advance tax this quarter against Rs 425 crore paid in the same period last year. Yes Bank also did well by paying Rs 165 crore against Rs 110 crore, 50% more. And Standard Charterd bank, a foreign bank paid 10% higher at Rs 475 crore against Rs 435 crore last March.

ITC clocked in the lowest increase in advance tax collection at Rs 675 crore. It is a 2% increase over corresponding quarter of last year.
 
The automobile slump also took its toll. Bajaj Auto paid little over 2% higher tax. It paid Rs 300 crore against Rs 293 crore last March while M&M did slightly better. It paid Rs 205 crore against Rs 178 crore, nearly 15% more.

ACC paid 50% more, shelling out Rs 227 crore against Rs 149 crore.

Information Technology major TCS has declared that it has paid Rs 600 crore as advance tax for the quarter January-March 2013, nearly 10% more than the previous quarter. Last year for the March quarter, the company had paid Rs 545 crore as advance tax, according to information available from the Income Tax department here.

State Bank of India has paid Rs 1,450 crore as foruth instalment of advance tax for FY13. During the period income tax paid at its foreign offices was Rs 160 crore.

Advance tax paid in aggregate in Indian offices during the year is Rs 6,144 crore. With Rs 736 crore paid at its foreign offices, total tax paid during the year is Rs 6,880 crore across all its territories.
