As the domestic steel industry reels under pressure due to global economic crisis, country's largest steel maker Steel Authority of India (SAIL) today said "going might get tougher" in days to come, even as the company has chalked out strategy to tide over the crisis.

"Like many other industries, steel industry too is now going through tough phase and the going might get tougher in the days to come," SAIL Chairman S K Roongta said while addressing the 345th meeting of the board of directors (SAIL), which concluded here yesterday.

However, he added that the company has chalked out strategies to overcome the crisis and their expansion plan is as per schedule.

"SAIL will gear up with visible measures to withstand the adverse impact of economic slow down," he said adding that it would ensure timely completion of the proposed modernisation and expansion projects of SAIL plants in a time bound manner to avoid cost-overrun.

The SAIL chief sought full support from all the employees of the steel company to tide over the present recessionary phase.

Altogether 15 directors, including Managing Director, of all steel plants of SAIL have participated in the day-long board meeting.
