NRI billionaire Anil Agarwal-led Sterlite Industries today said its consolidated net profit declined 54.62 per cent to Rs 598.25 crore in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2009.
The copper producer had a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,318.41 crore in the fourth quarter of 2007-08, Sterlite Industries said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
Consolidated total income of the Vedanta Group firm also fell to Rs 4,406.04 crore in the March quarter of FY'2009, from Rs 6,833.02 crore in the same period a year ago.
For the financial year ended March 31, 2009, the company posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 3,539.99 crore, a 19.53 per cent drop over the last year.
It had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 4,399.37 crore for the financial year ended March 31, 2008.
Sterlite Industries' consolidated total income for the fiscal ended March 31, 2009, fell to Rs 21,448.40 crore against Rs 25,046.67 crore last fiscal.

On a standalone basis, the copper major registered a net profit of Rs 211.56 crore in the reporting period compared with Rs 306.45 crore, down by 30.96 per cent.
The company has proposed a dividend of Rs 3.50 a piece (175 per cent) on the face value of Rs 2 per share.
The shares of Sterlite Industries today closed at Rs 383.20, down 7.73 per cent on the BSE.
